Since 1990 Ecobilan, also referred
to as Ecobalance, advises Industry and
Government on the environmental performance of products and services.
Supported by a number of leading edge environmental analysis and
management software tools, Ecobilan provides services,
methodologies
and tools that promote the integration of environmental performance
across the varying functions of an organisation.
Ecobilan is recognised world-wide as an innovative and technologically
advanced leader in the application to Technologies, Services and
Products of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
LCA is concerned with the impact of extended systems (sequences
of industrial operations) on the environment, applied to industrial
strategy and product design.
Historically, LCA has been used for benchmarking and making environmental
comparisons based on the use of energy and raw materials, releases
to air, water and land and associated environmental impacts potentials.
While LCA has traditionally provided a 'snapshot' of
environmental impacts, Ecobilan has applied life cycle techniques in a
more pragmatic way- creating synergies with experts in environmental
management systems, economics, risk assessment and social impact
assessment.
Ecobilan has joined the Global Sustainability
Services department of
PricewaterhouseCoopers
in March 2000. By re-defining the boundaries for the application
of life cycle techniques and creating links with other disciplines,
we have harmonised the various approaches enabling the quantification
of environmental, economic and social impacts- the 3 key of
sustainable development.
